Your voice never leaves your Mac.
Transcription runs locally on your device. We use minimal backend services for billing, licensing, product analytics, and crash diagnostics.
How it works
When you speak, Almond captures audio through your Mac's microphone. The audio is processed by AI models running directly on your hardware. Text appears on screen. That's it.
The audio never leaves your computer. It isn't uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere else. The entire pipeline from sound wave to text happens locally.
No data transfer
Some transcription services promise "zero data retention". They receive your audio, process it on their servers, then delete it. That still requires sending your voice over the internet.
Almond is different. Your audio is never transmitted in the first place. For voice content, there is no retention policy because there is no transfer. We cannot access your voice or transcript content because we never receive it.
Faster and offline
On-device processing has no network latency. Your Mac's hardware handles everything directly, which means faster transcription with no dependency on internet speed.
No Wi-Fi on a flight. Spotty connection at a cafe. Almond doesn't care. Because processing happens locally, you can dictate anywhere.
Billing actions and subscription status updates sync when you're online.
On-device
Runs on your Mac's hardware.
No cloud transcription
Audio and transcript content stay on-device.
Offline
No connection needed.
What we collect
Almond keeps audio and transcript content on-device. We collect limited pseudonymous telemetry needed for billing, abuse prevention, and product improvement.
- No account required.
- Pseudonymous usage analytics only. We collect counters and product events (for example, onboarding and dictation completion) tied to a device or web visitor ID, not audio or transcript content.
- Billing metadata. Stripe customer/subscription IDs and subscription status for access control.
- Crash diagnostics. We collect technical crash data (for example, app version and stack traces) via Sentry to improve reliability. Audio is not uploaded for crash reporting.
- Website analytics and delivery logs. Website analytics tooling and hosting providers may process technical web request data (for example, IP address, user agent, referrer, and page path).
- No audio or transcript content. Your words stay on your Mac.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store your payment details. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment transactions.
Your data
Your voice and transcript content exist only on your Mac. Uninstalling removes local app data. Server-side billing, analytics, and crash metadata may remain per operational and legal retention requirements.
Changes
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be communicated through the app.
